Fiber optic technology toward the next century

The author reviews the progress of communications (the integrated services digital network and the optical fiber network) and forecasts the future of telecommunications for the 21st century. In particular he examines the fiber to the home (FTTH) project as well as several key technologies for the FTTH project, such as optical fibers, microelectronics, and optoelectronics technologies.<>
