Integrated remote control and protection system with distributed control and protection units

The authors describe an integrated remote control and protection system for medium voltage substations. The system is a modern distributed hierarchical control system, which uses fiber optic serial buses for data transfer and dynamic display-windows for information presentation. The system includes remote or substation control centers, station level data communicator, alarm system and bay level control and protection units. The control center includes all the normal remote control functions. Further, the setting values and other parameters of the control units, protective relays or alarm units can be read or changed from the display of the control center. The substation level data communicator connects the distributed control, protection and alarm units of the substation to the control center. The data communicator includes connections to the control center, to the bay level control and protection units, to the stations alarm system and to the local man-machine devices.<>
