Social analysis in MIS: The Irvine School, 1970-90

The major approaches of the Irvine School are discussed, the essential findings of the research are reviewed, and emerging directions are presented. It is noted that the School's identity has been developed through focus on a common research objective: understanding the organizational and social impacts of information technology, and, more broadly, the role of technical innovation in organizational change.<>
