The place of propagation studies within the CCIR

The International Radio Consultative Committee (CCIR) is the permanent organ of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) responsible 'to study technical and operating questions relating specifically to radiocommunications without limit of frequency range, and to issue Recommendations on them with a view to standardising telecommunications on a world-wide basis'. The future development of telecommunication services depends on the availability of frequency spectrum. New technology and new services call for studies on frequency allocation, sharing and management. Two thirds of the work of CCIR is devoted to such spectrum utilisation studies which, inter alia, include radiowave propagation; the remaining third concerns system characteristics and performance standards.<>
