Networking and transmission of dual channel sound

The introduction of NICAM digital sound has involved changes to the entire broadcast chain from the originating studio, through the distribution networks to transmitting station systems and also to the viewers home reception equipment. The paper describes the 'all digital' approach adopted by the IBA in the conversion of the network and transmitter systems for ITV and Channel 4 and highlights some of the novel techniques that have been employed.<>
