The rigorous analysis of complex planar circuits using a desk-top computer

Much interest has been shown in the literature regarding the analysis of complex planar components such as are found in modern (M)MIC's. Most of the published results have, however, required the use of a large computer. In this contribution a technique is described, based on the finite element method, whereby rigorous analyses of moderately complex microwave circuits may be obtained on a relatively small desk-top computer. Results obtained using an IBM PC-AT compatible are presented for coupled hairpin resonators. These show good agreement with results obtained using more computationally expensive methods.<>
