TROPICO-RA is a stored program controlled switching exchange which is now at its final development stage. A description is given of its hardware structure. It is shown how the solutions were shaped by the high reliability and adaptability requirements for the many configurations, applications, and evolution which characterize the TROPICO equipment family.<>
