Accuracy and complexity in the modelling of power systems subject to large network disturbances in a framework given by Tellegen's theorem and adjoint networks

The author shows that power systems subject to large network disturbances can be conveniently analyzed in a framework given by Tellegen's theorem and adjoint networks. The nonlinear AC models are presented and their corresponding accuracy and complexity are addressed for all layers of nonlinearity. Formulas to enable the understanding of the accuracy and complexity are complemented with experimental data. Layer-1 models provide accurate results for most practical cases with a small computational effort. In the few cases in which a more accurate model is necessary, a model still in the same framework will yield any desired accuracy at a competitive price-layer 2 models.<>
