Analysis of small broadband flare antennas by an improved FD-TD method

Input impedance, current distribution, and radiation pattern for a small broadband flare antenna are numerically analyzed by an improved finite-difference-time-domain (FD-TD) method. This method is best suited for treating the curvilinear metal boundaries. The selected small flare antennas with appropriate shapes and a size of about 9 cm show a good broadband performance. The results also show that the input impedance is between 150-450 Omega in a wide-frequency range, and that the radiation patterns are similar for the frequencies in the 5-12 GHz range.<>
