Forest Fires Smoke Detection From SeaWiFS Data Sensor: Case of Algerian Coast

Fire detection is a new product that is being developed by using the sensors to monitor smoke and heat, which typically work hand in hand with fires. These products can be used to assist in fire prevention measures by monitoring vegetation changes, wind patterns, and other cumulative factors. The SeaStar satellite, carries the SeaWiFS (Sea-viewing Wide-Field-of View Sensor) instrument and was launched to low Earth orbit on board an extended Pegasus launch vehicle on August 1, 1997. Smoke from fires along the Algerian Coast and dust storm blanketed the Mediterranean Sea on Friday 25 August 2000.
