Managing change and resolving conflict for efficient implementation of AVIP

It is pointed out that managing change and resolving conflict are critical ingredients for efficient and effective implementation of the Air Force Aeronautical Systems Division's Avionics Integrity Program (AVIP). For many companies, the concepts promoted by AVIP, while basic in nature, differ radically from typical methods of doing business in the defense electronics market. It is noted that recognizing how changes affect key people within the company and resolving conflicts which may arise because of changes can promote a better transition from the known and familiar to the unknown and new. Companies that develop skills to manage change and resolve conflict while implementing elements of AVIP also place themselves in a position to be more competitive when entering new markets. The authors address strategies to deal with change and conflict, and present examples of changes companies encounter when implementing AVIP and conflicts which may arise due to those changes.<>
