System design considerations for automotive entertainment products

This paper will discuss some of the considerations involved with the design and development of a premium radio system for today's automotive market. By premium, we are referring to a top-of-the-line system that includes capabilities for the reception of AM and FM signals along with either an 8-track or cassette tape deck option. The paper emphasizes the developmental considerations involved for O.E.M. or factory installed systems rather than those that may be part of a dealer or aftermarket system installation. It will also primarily be directed towards our experience at Delco Electronics in the development of entertainment systems for various General Motors' vehicles over the past several years.
