Simple Measurement of the Chirp Parameter of Optical Modulators Using Partial Optical Filtering

A novel and simple technique for measuring the chirp parameter of optical modulators using optical filtering and phase comparison is demonstrated. Chirp parameters, as well as the signs, of both electro-optic (EO) and electro-absorption (EA) modulators are measured with sensitivity < 0.1 under varying bias conditions.
