Azimuthal interpolation and noise reduction

The in-plane resolution of CT imaging depends not only on the number of detector elements per slice, but also on the number of projections used for reconstruction. If the number of projections is too small, artifacts occur. To overcome this problem, it suggests itself to increase the number of projections by interpolation. For this purpose a new interpolation method was developed. This method - advanced sinogram interpolation (ASI) - doubles the number of projection rows of a given parallel sinogram and thereby increases azimuthal resolution. The second field of application is noise reduction. It is possible to use ASI to decrease image noise. In particular, spatial resolution must be considered, as typically noise reduction can only be carried out at the expense of spatial resolution.
