A study on the skipping of the compact disk player

The causes of skipping by sound pressure of a speaker in a compact disk player were studied through the analysis of the error signal from the optical pickup and the modal analysis. It was ascertained that skipping was induced by the nodal circle mode of the compact disk and the vibration energy was transmitted through the air and mechanical components of the compact disk player. It was proved that the cause of skipping was closely related to the natural frequencies and vibration mode shapes forming the nodal circle. This results in increased relative displacement between disk and optical pickup when the disk is excited by external excitation sources. The reduction of relative motion between disk and pickup when the external excitation is induced is considered as a method for solving the skipping problem.<>
