Sealed insulation systems for electric motors

This paper takes much of its factual information from an original paper written in 1961 for another pulp and paper industry meeting. The information contained is relative to motor life and applies today. Almost all of the PPIC will find the details relative to motor systems of this time. Decisions reached in 1961 were made using the information available at that time. Offerings of the Motor Manufacturers in 1961 do not apply in 2005. In 1961 electric motor costs might be kept to a minimum by installing open drip proof sealed stator motors where formerly only a TEFC motor had afforded enough protection. Further savings were obtained in a motor renewal program by replacing all motors 50 HP and under with open dripproof encapsulated motors.
