Biodistribution of chitosan based nano magnetite suspension for targeted hyperthermia

In this paper, the iron uptake contents and morphology of targeted organs for hyperthermia were studied in ICR mouse by injection of magnetic suspension. Biodistribution of injected (chitosan-based) magnetite suspension was investigated using intraoral X-ray equipments and histological images for effective targeting hyperthermia. Fe/sub 3/O/sub 4/ and chitosan based Fe/sub 3/O/sub 4/ suspension were synthesized by spray-coprecipitated method. When biocompatible chitosan was applied in magnetic suspension, various values of the surface charge of the magnetite were acquired. Phagocytic uptake should be avoided in targeting magnetic particles to other organs and tissues such as liver and spleen. 2 wt% chitosan-based magnetite suspension with a zeta potential close to zero showed a reduced phagocytic uptake in comparison with charged particles.
