Atomistic investigations of alpha-Fe thin film growth on Al [100]

For many years ultra-thin films of metal on metallic system has been actively researched, especially, about alloy formation, interface and epitaxial growth. There are some experimental results concerning surface and interfacial compounds in multilayers systems.[l-3] Those are applicable to the nano-scale magnetic thin films consisting of ferromagnetic/non-ferromagnetic multilayers. Recently, the experimental work on the interfacial mixing and the magnetic properties of Fe deposited on AI by metal vapor deposition method was reported.[4] Ramana et al. showed that Ti as a stabilizing material prevented forming the intermixing compound at the Fe/AI interface.[5]
