Spectrum efficiency of microcellular systems

A description is given of microcellular mobile radio systems having a Rician faded desired signal, uncorrelated Rayleigh-faded cochannel interferers, and UHF ground-wave path loss characteristics dependent on the location of the turning point which causes two different values of path loss slope. Cochannel interference probability is evaluated as a function of reuse distance, with carried traffic, protection ratio, and turning point as parameters using the Erlang-B formula. The radio spectrum efficiency is analyzed in terms of cochannel interference probability.
