An ONR young investigator project - predictive reconfiguration of shipboard power systems

Summary form only given. The development of a truly automated and effective reconfiguration method will require creative exploration of the domain of the operational and theoretical boundaries of shipboard power systems. The principal investigator proposes a unique redefinition of the reconfiguration problem that determines reconfiguration actions to prevent loss of supply as well as to restore power quickly to critical loads and change operating modes. This approach is termed "predictive reconfiguration" by the principal investigator. This presentation discusses the research findings related to the development of this predictive reconfiguration concept for shipboard power systems. This research brings advanced solutions to shipboard power systems with a goal of survivability and reduced manning. This work provides technology to address the Navy's prevalent need for automated and reconfigurable shipboard power systems.
