Water filling for uncoded communications over parallel Gaussian channels

We investigate the problem of allocating power to send uncoded information over parallel Gaussian channels. We examine the reason why regular "water-filling" does not work in the uncoded case, and show that a modification of the noise level of each subchannel lets "water-filling" work in this case.
