Ultra-high-Q (>100-million) micro-cavities for stimulated and parametric laser sources

A new chip-based microcavity capable of Q factors as high as 500 million is reviewed. Fiber-coupled Raman and parametric oscillators having microWatt level threshold powers are demonstrated as well as narrow-linewidth erbium lasers.
