Computer aided design of conformal phased array element

The authors present a concept for designing phased array elements. By measuring the S-parameters of the antenna array with modern measurement equipment (e.g., HP 8510 network analyzer) and applying Kirchhoff's circuit relationships, one can compute the active scanning input impedance quite accurately. On the basis of the concepts presented, computer-aided design (CAD) programs were developed and successfully used to design the printed crossed-slot elements for mobile satellite communications and the broadband reduced-size log-periodic monopole array for airborne wing conformal phased-array applications.<>
