Performance of serially concatenated convolutional codes with BPSK in the presence of pulsed noise jamming

In this paper, the bit error rate of four-state BPSK serially concatenated convolutional codes (SCCC) with BPSK, AWGN and pulsed noise jamming is examined. For low signal-to-noise ratios, simulation results are obtained, while for higher signal-to-noise ratios, an average upper bound is developed. We find that pulsed noise jamming is largely ineffective for sufficient total SNR (> 10 dB) unless the jammer uses very high jamming power. For smaller SNR, the situation is more complicated. Pulse jamming with /spl rho/ < 0.01 is largely ineffective. Pulse jamming is effective for 0.1 > /spl rho/ > 1.0 and for 8 dB > SNR > 0 dB. The most effective strategy for a jammer is to employ barrage jamming with signal-to-jamming noise ratio (SJR) < 2 dB. Side information (SI) is most effective for 0.1 > /spl rho/ > 1.0 and its usefulness is dependent on SNR.
