Refurbishment of the static VAr compensator at Laurentides

This paper provides a case study of the refurbishment of a 1978 SVC at Laurentides. A historical overview of the operating experience is provided with an evaluation of the state of the equipment prior to refurbishing. A full description of the justification to extend life at a minimum cost is given. Finally, a retrospective of the key technical aspects of the project development and the lesson learnt are presented.
