Gas insulated transformers for Haymarket substation

Because of increased loads in the Sydney area, particularly during summer, TransGrid has undertaken a project to build a new 330 kV underground substation at Haymarket, near the central business district of Sydney, Australia. The substation, to be completed during 2003, will be in close proximity to other buildings and it is planned to develop a commercial building above the substation. TransGrid received tenders from the major transformer manufacturers proposing a variety of different solutions involving oil and gas insulated designs. The offer that best met all the evaluation criteria was for SF/sub 6/ gas filled transformers and reactor to be manufactured by Toshiba at their Hamakawasaki Works.
