Micro-controller for substation and network automation

The South East Queensland Electricity Board (SEQEB) has been evaluating various approaches to reducing the cost of distributing electricity. The Micro Controller is a device designed to be installed on feeders and transformers at bulk and zone substations. It is a stand alone mini SCADA system which also carries out protection functions including: overcurrent, earthfault, sensitive earthfault, auto reclose, and circuit breaker fail protection. It also provides current and voltage indication, alarm annunciation and data logging. The authors review the design and application of the Micro Controller in detail, with information on installation, commissioning and operational experience gained to data.<>
