An Undulating Profiler

The goal of this paper is to show the technical innovations for a towed, instrumented, vehicle that can undulate through the upper 100 meters of the ocean. The forward wing of the vehicle is composed of ten individually detachable faired segments where sensors and associated electronics are located. Additional sensors can be located in a cylindrical pod that also houses the undulation control electronics. A digital measurement and control system interacts with all sensors and vehicle controls via softward and a keyboard located on shipboard. The vehicle has a one meter wing span and is balasted to about 27 kilograms.
