Information redundancy and adaptive structures

THE CONTINUING DEMAND for improvements in electronic system dependability has been met by advances on various fronts. As discussed by Peck’, active and passive circuit components can now be made as reliable as soldered and wire-wrap connections. The use of multiplicated components, circuits, and subsystems in redundant structures has been shown by Suran2J to be capable of providing substantial improvement in the mean time to failure over that of equivalent, but nonredundant, structures.
