Microwave hyperthermia using retro-focusing

An improved method of focusing microwave energy onto tumorous tissue has been developed. The technique uses the incoherent thermal emissions of tumors to derive the necessary phase information for focusing a phased-array applicator onto a tumor. A two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain program for TM polarizations was developed. The resulting contour images show that retrofocusing is achieved with a size and location accuracy of significantly less than one wavelength.<>
