Technical development and its application in high-definition television

NHK has been deeply involved in research and development of HDTV since late 1960s. In June 1989 NHK started a regular HDTV broadcast for one hour a day to promote its progress in the development of HDTV. The authors introduce NHK's recent development in HDTV equipment and its commercial application.<>
