Integration of a total cryogen recondensation system into an operating mobile magnetic resonance imaging van

The first successful cryogen recondensation system has been installed in the US for mobile magnetic-resonance imaging use. The recondensation system employs a three-stage Gifford-McMahon helium recondenser and a single-stage nitrogen recondenser. Both are mounted in their respective cryogen vents for performance, reliability, and ease of service. Integration of the recondensation system into mobile vans presented special design problems which are discussed. The operating characteristics of the system are presented along with a review of interactions between the magnet, refrigerator, and imaging system.<>
