Calculation of Reverberation Time in Educational Environments: A Comparison of Analytical Models

This study investigates the accuracy and applicability of various analytical models for predicting reverberation time in educational environments. By comparing theoretical predictions with in-situ measurements conducted in six classrooms at the University of Applied Sciences Stuttgart, the research highlights the limitations and strengths of classical and modern reverberation models. The analysis includes widely used formulas such as Sabine, Eyring, Millington, Fitzroy and more recent approaches like TohyamaSuzuki and Neubauer-Kostek. Results show significant variability in model performance, particularly in rooms with complex geometries and heterogeneous absorption surfaces. The findings emphasize the importance of model selection based on room characteristics and suggest that no single model universally outperforms others across all scenarios. This work contributes to the refinement of acoustic prediction methods and supports more accurate acoustic planning in learning spaces.
