Algorithms for DRM (Digital Right Management) of OTT (Over the Top) Platforms: A Survey

The development of the new age digital world has made our lives easy but this development has also exposed us to new forms of security threats. Content piracy and illegal distribution of digital data is one of them. The Internet encourages data sharing and transparency but it does not ensure data protection. To secure the digital rights of content providers of the OTT platforms, a framework called the digital rights management (DRM) system has been incorporated with certain sets of rules that are required to be followed by the users of the OTT platforms in order to get access to their content. Some players in the market offer a multi-DRM solution to their users on a leveraging basis. This paper focuses on the workings of the DRM system and how it protects digital content against potential threats. We have conducted a detailed analysis of the existing literature dealing with the algorithms working at the backend of the digital framework. Two main algorithms, the AES algorithm for encryption and the ECC algorithm for license key generation are used in most of the existing work. To achieve incompressibility, traceability and confidentiality this paper proposes an AI-driven approach towards DRM systems where a combination of both AES and ECC algorithms have been used.
