Teaching Design and System Development of Continuous Wave Radar Echo Simulation

To address the demand for high-precision radar detection in obstacle avoidance scenarios for mobile platforms, this study proposes a radar echo modeling and simulation method based on a continuous wave (CW) system. By establishing a multi-effect coupling model (including Doppler shift, multi-path reflection, and occlusion effects) and adopting a modular hierarchical design, the method achieves a full-chain simulation process spanning dynamic target point cloud generation and signal processing. Experiments centered on a 77 GHz frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar, integrated with a MATLAB/Python co-simulation platform, demonstrate performance metrics with a target range resolution of 3 cm and velocity measurement error below 0.5%. Breaking the limitations of fragmented traditional radar pedagogy through project-based research, this study establishes a tripartite teaching system encompassing "theoretical modeling – virtual-real simulation – engineering validation," providing high-confidence data support for obstacle avoidance algorithm development in unmanned platforms. Additionally, an assessment framework is developed, covering radar theory, simulation software design, system integration, and error suppression algorithms. The proposed methodology has been applied to the development of a millimeter-wave radar obstacle avoidance system for mobile platform.
