A Simple Handheld High-voltage Pulse Generator for Electrostimulation

This paper reports on the development of a very simple battery-powered device for pulsed electromagnetic field therapy intended for use in the general population. It combines the generation of high voltage pulses with the generation of a cold plasma, while the human body is capacitively coupled. The device generates pulses with an amplitude of up to 14 kVpp and a repetition frequency of 500 Hz. The operation of the device is discussed at the level of the block diagram, and the basic problems related to electromagnetic compatibility and exposure to radio frequencies are highlighted.
