Comparative Analysis of Classic Phase Coding Techniques in FMCW Radar

This paper presents a comparative study of four classic phase coding sequences—Barker, Costas, Frank, and Zadoff-Chu—for Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar. Performance is evaluated based on Doppler ambiguity function metrics, including mainlobe width, sidelobe peak, integrated sidelobe level (ISL), and peak sidelobe ratio (PSLR). A composite performance indicator is used to quantify overall performance. Simulation results obtained via MAT LAB under ideal conditions indicate that the Barker code exhibits the most favorable ambiguity function characteristics. The paper includes a detailed analysis of the results along with high-quality figures, such as a graphical performance table, bar charts for individual metrics, and range-Doppler plots, to support the findings. Limitations and potential improvements for practical applications are also discussed.
