Microwave Network Theory-Enabled Efficient Design Method for High-Bit Discrete Component Loaded Coding Metasurfaces

An efficient design method for high-performance discrete component loaded coding metasurfaces (DCLCMs) is proposed to achieve high-precision reconfigurable electromagnetic (EM) environments. The DCLCMs, integrated with lumped capacitors, inductors, and tunable diodes, can enable high-bit phase modulation capability with simple metasurface structures. To accelerate the design of desired DCLCMs, we employ the port network model and genetic algorithm to support the processes. We use the proposed method to design a 4-bit DCLCM at less than 100 times the cost of conventional methods. The effectiveness and efficiency of the method offer promising applications in wireless communications.
