Gesture Control Based Home Automation Using Raspberry Pi

This paper presents a gesture-controlled home automation system designed to provide develop an expansive gesture recognition based home automation system which allows users to control home appliances without physical contact. A Raspberry Pi 3B serves as the system's center processing unit. A camera module captures hand gestures which are processed through computer vision using OpenCV and Media Pipe libraries. The system recognizes hand movements and translates them into actions such as turning lights, fans and other devices on or off through GPIO controlled relays. The novel system proposed in this work improves accessibility for persons with mobility impairments by removing the physical interaction with switches and mobile applications. This system achieves greater accuracy of real- time operations, intutive interactions with the home system, and improved hygiene which demonstrates an efficient and flexible infrastructure for smart homes.
