Research on Electromagnetic Scattering of a Ship Hull Loaded with Metasurfaces on the Sea

This study designed a metasurface based on a crossshaped metal structure, which exhibits significant resonant characteristics at 11.26 GHz with a resonant depth of −19.19 dB. By applying this metasurface to a ship hull model, the electromagnetic scattering characteristics of the ship in a sea surface environment were investigated. Using the electromagnetic simulation software CST Studio Suite 2022, monostatic Radar Cross Section (RCS) simulations were conducted on the ship hull model both with and without the metasurface. The effects of different polarization modes (horizontal and vertical polarization) and various sea states (no sea surface, sea state 1, 3, and 5) on the RCS were analyzed. The simulation results indicate that the presence of the sea surface significantly increases the RCS of the ship hull compared to the case without the sea surface. However, after loading the metasurface, the RCS of the ship hull model was reduced to varying degrees under different sea states, with the maximum RCS reduction reaching 9.63 dB under vertical polarization in sea state 5.
