Comparative Synthesis of Linear and Nonlinear Model Predictive Controllers for Satellite Attitude Control System

Modern satellite applications demand an attitude control system to stabilize the satellite and accurately point the payload, achieving the mission requirements and satisfying the satellite constraints. This work outlines the design process for a model predictive controller that effectively handles the complex nonlinear dynamics and constraints inherent in satellite attitude stabilization. A comparative synthesis of linear and nonlinear model predictive controllers is proposed for satellite attitude control system An appropriate observer is integrated to estimate the satellite state, enhancing the controller robustness to uncertainties. The results demonstrate the feasibility and validity of implementing the designed control system through realistic conditions for reliable and high-performance attitude control, e.g., pointing accuracy and stabilization while satisfying the actuators limits.
