Demonstration of Equivalent Source Approach for Modelling gNB Antennas in 5G Network

The use of equivalent source for modelling antenna array has been proposed. A crossed-dipole antenna for gNB has been designed operating at 5 GHz. The equivalent source approach employing Huygens’ Box (HB) has been utilized to calculate its far-field patterns. Building upon it, 1x2 antenna array is designed. The equivalent source approach, mentioned previously, has been used to calculate the far-field patterns of the above mentioned antenna arrays. The patterns of actual antenna and antenna arrays closely match with the patterns calculated using the equivalent source approach. Further, for 1x2 antenna array, there is a reduction of 72% in computation time when equivalent source method is used. This demonstrates the robustness and effectiveness of equivalent source approach for analyzing complex and massive geometries of antenna systems for 5G and future generations.
