The Study of the Cooling Effect of the Internal Loop Air-Liquid Hybrid Cooling System (ILALHCS) on Edge Servers

With the increasing power consumption of edge computing chips, traditional air cooling systems (ACS) are becoming insufficient to meet the cooling demands. This paper presents an ILALHCS that significantly enhances the cooling effect of edge computing chips through the synergistic action of fans and cold plates. It’s indicated that, compared to the ACS, the ILALHCS can reduce the maximum surface temperature of the chip by $30^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$. Additionally, the temperature distribution on the cold plate surface is more uniform than that on the heat sink surface. When the CPU temperature is $70^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$, the power usage effectiveness (PUE) of the edge server using the ILALHCS is reduced by approximately 0.1 compared to that using the ACS. Furthermore, the noise value of the ILALHCS is reduced by approximately 25 dB compared to that of the ACS. The ILALHCS demonstrates great potential in cooling effect, PUE and noise level.
