The Effect of CAN Protocols on Communication Delay in Hybrid Vehicle Systems Based on ID

Controller Area Network (CAN) is a standard communication protocol in the automotive industry, especially hybrid vehicles. The complexity of hybrid vehicle components such as hybrid control unit (HCU) settings, battery management system (BMS), and motor control requires robust and real time multi-communication. The main characteristic in CAN communication is the ID-based arbitration mechanism. The experiments conducted discuss the impact of CAN ID structuring on the performance of data communication in hybrid vehicle systems, especially on message delivery delay. Through this test, the structuring system is used in 4 ID variations to see the significant difference in the response rate between nodes. Messages with higher IDs experience delay especially during heavy data traffic, which can affect synchronisation and power distribution efficiency. These findings demonstrate the importance of strategically setting the CAN ID hierarchy to ensure stability and optimal performance in hybrid vehicle systems.
