Value Analysis for ES Planning: A Multi-Parametric Programming Method

ES planning can optimize the allocation of power system resources and improve system reliability and resilience. The existing ES planning often adopts numerical analysis, while failing to theoretically derive the value of ES planning so that the relevant decision-making may not be comprehensive. In this context, this paper proposes a multi-parametric programming method for the theoretical value of ES in power system planning. Firstly, a constraint relaxation technique is adopted to transform the nonlinear ES planning model with complementary conditions into an equivalent linear formula, while ensuring the feasibility and optimality of the planning results. This eliminates ES binary variables so that multi-parametric programming can be applied for value analysis. Furthermore, we derive the quantitative mapping between ES parameters and planning value results, which is found as an explicit piecewise function. The proposed method was validated using the IEEE-30 bus system with real renewable energy generation data.
