Exploring Bite Force Measurement using FlexiForce Sensor and Instrumentation Amplifier

Bite force measurement plays a crucial role in applications such as dentistry, biomechanics, and product design, where accurate force quantification is essential. This study investigates a bite force measurement system using FlexiForce sensors in conjunction with a Wheatstone bridge configuration and an Instrumentation amplifier for signal conditioning. The system undergoes five trials for forces ranging from 5 kg to 25 kg, during which the sensor output voltage varies from 0.86 V to 2.51 V. Experimental results confirm a direct proportionality between applied force and sensor output voltage, thereby validating system reliability. Comparative analysis shows that the instrumentation amplifier circuit provides better signal amplification and is more immune to noise than the standard recommended circuit. Additionally, tests under different supply voltages of 5 V and 9 V reveal that the output voltage scales proportionally with the supply voltage. These findings validate the system's effectiveness in bite force measurement, with potential applications in healthcare, robotics, and industrial automation.
