Low power and cost-effective Pulse Oximeter for Real-Time Health Monitoring

This paper involves designing and developing a low-cost, portable pulse oximeter using an Arduino Pro Mini and a set of basic electronic components. The pulse oximeter will measure the oxygen saturation level (SpO2) and pulse rate by analysing the light absorption characteristics of blood through a fingertip. The key components include an IR LED and a Red LED to emit light through the fingertip, with a photodiode detecting the varying light absorption as blood pulses through the finger. The detected signals are amplified and processed by the Arduino Pro Mini, which calculates the pulse rate and oxygen saturation. The OLED display provides real-time visualization of these readings. A 9V battery powers the device, regulated by an LM7805 voltage regulator to supply 5V to the Arduino and the connected components. Additional supporting components, including BC547 transistors, resistors, and a clutcher, help with signal amplification and circuit stability. This pulse oximeter is designed to be portable, energy-efficient, and cost-effective, making it ideal for personal health monitoring.
