Stress Mitigation Through Alpha Wave Enhancement Using Binaural Auditory Beats

Stress is a natural physiological response triggered by environmental stressors; however, when excessive or prolonged, it can become a significant psychological condition that adversely impacts an individual’s physical and mental well-being. Binaural beats are an auditory illusion produced when two distinct tones with slightly different frequencies are delivered separately to each ear, causing the brain to perceive a rhythmic beat corresponding to their frequency difference. This study investigates the potential of alpha-frequency binaural beats (8–12 Hz) as a treatment method to alleviate the symptoms of stress. The methodology involves recording the electroencephalogram (using a 19-channel EEG acquisition system) subject’s data under stressed conditions and exposure to alpha binaural beats. Results indicated a significant increase in alpha wave activity, which correlated with reduced subjective stress levels. The findings highlight alpha binaural beats as a promising non-invasive intervention for stress mitigation. Future research could explore optimized exposure durations and personalized frequency tuning to maximize therapeutic outcomes. This study highlights the potential of binaural beat therapy as a practical intervention for stress reduction in diverse populations.
