Low ESL Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors for the Application of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

The development of portable Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) devices requires lightweight and low-loss capacitors. This paper presents a novel redesign of standard aluminum electrolytic capacitors, using an optimized tab foil layout. The approach emphasizes the reduction of Equivalent Series Inductance (ESL), ensuring compatibility with high switching frequencies and a variety of pulse patterns. The redesign achieved a 25 % reduction in ESL and paves the way for lightweight and more compact TMS systems for on-site therapy.
