Modulation-Incorporated Model Predictive Control Using Symmetric Single Pulse for Dual Three-Phase PMSMs

This paper proposes a modulation-incorporated model predictive control (mMPC) by adopting symmetric single pulse modulation for dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous machines (DTP-PMSMs). The issue of a variable switching frequency and high current distortion is addressed through combining the control and the modulation within one computation stage. By selecting four specific voltage vectors, the proposed mMPC scheme emulates a symmetric switching pattern with only one pulse per sampling period of space vector modulation (SVM) to minimize the switching frequency and enhance its implementation for microcontrollers. Moreover, it reduces the harmonic distortion and the response time to improve the control performance. Simulation and experiment verifications are carried out on a DTP-PMSM, which well agree with theoretical analysis, thus successfully verifying the effectiveness of the proposed mMPC for multiple-phase PMSMs.
